VACATION TRIP TO PUERTO RICO

Q: We learned that you went to Puerto Rico, isn't it?

A: Yes, I went to Puerto Rico on September 3, 2009 just by myself to see that place. Puerto Rico is well-known country too worldwide. Many of my friends told me that Puerto Rico is a nice place for vacation and tour. I left at San Francisco Inernational Airport (SFO) thru AirTran on September 3, 2009 at 10:30pm and arrived at Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport (SJU) on September 4, 2009 at 1:30pm with a stop-over at Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Puerto Rico is 3 hours ahead from San Francisco, California, USA during daylight saving time and 4 hours ahead during standard time.

I went back to San Francisco, California, USA on September 7, 2009 because my vacation days there are ended and I have to go back to my work on the following day. I left at Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport (SJU) on September 7, 2009 at 1:30pm and arrived at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) at 9:30pm with a stop-over at Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

Q: Where did you go in Puerto Rico and how did you get there?

A: As I mentioned earlier that I went to Puerto Rico on September 3-7, 2009 thru AirTran. I went to Carolina where Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport is located, Santurce, Guavate, San Juan, it's capital, Cataño where the Bacardi Rum Factory is located, Bayamon, Dorado, and Fajardo.

Q: How's the weather there in Puerto Rico?

A: Well, the weather there is similar to tropical areas because Puerto Rico is located near to equator. The temperature there is 95°F during days and 65°F during nights. It is also a humid area and you will get sweat there like in Philippines. Sometimes there is a rain mostly in the afternoon, evening, or early morning.

Q: Are you familiar with the streets, main roads, and freeways in Puerto Rico?

A: No, I am not yet familiar with the streets, main roads, and freeways in Puerto Rico because it was my first time to visit there. Thanks God that there are maps that I got from Enterprise and Coral by the Sea Hotel. Thanks God also that Enterprise has a GPS or road navigator and so I did not missed all the routes of the places that I have to visit during my stay there. Later, I remember some of the routes there. If I will stay in Puerto Rico later, then I will remember more of the routes there. It takes time to remember all the routes.

Q: What is the currency in Puerto Rico?

A: Well, the currency in Puerto Rico is also US Dollars since it is also a territory of United States of America. Since Puerto Rico is also using US Dollars, I don't have to go to the banks just to buy or exchange bills or notes and coins. The cost of living there is similar to United States of America.

Q: What are the units of measurement in Puerto Rico?

A: Well, in Puerto Rico, they are using SI Units except for the speed or velocity because they are using miles per hour (mi/hr).

Q: How many provinces/states that Puerto Rico have?

A: Well, since Puerto Rico is a territory of United States of America, the whole country is also considered as a state of United States of America.

Q: Have you ate Puerto Rican foods there?

A: Yes, I ate a lot of Puerto Rican foods there. Their food is also delicious. Most of their foods have coconut, banana, guava, guanabana, pineapple, and rum. Bacardi rum is a well-known drink there because the main factory of Bacardi rum is located there. Their condiments and spices are unique and delicious. Their style of cooking is similar to other Caribbean countries. During my stay in Puerto Rico, I went to Platos, Piu Bello, lechonerias, and other small restaurants to taste and enjoy Puerto Rican foods. There are many street foods and vendors in San Juan. The foods there are affordable, too so you will enjoy these.

Q: Do you know any Puerto Rican Restaurant in your hometown so that we can eat and taste Puerto Rican foods and dishes?

Q: We heard that there is a lechon or roasted pig in Puerto Rico, isn't it?

A: Yes, there is a lechon or roasted pig in Puerto Rico. Lechon is very popular in Puerto Rico especially in Guavate. They are serving lechon during weekends only. Most of the restaurants in Guavate are serving lechon with side dishes. The skin of lechon is so crunchy. Their sauce is banana ketchup. In Philippines, they have lechon also but their sauce is liver sauce.

Q: How do you compare the people in Puerto Rico from the people in United States and Philippines?

A: Well, the people in Puerto Rico are also friendly and approachable, too like in Philippines and United States of America but they are dominant. The culture in Puerto Rico is similar in Philippines because Puerto Rico is also colonized by Spain for hundreds of years. Puerto Ricans are also Roman Catholics and there are also lot of old churches that they are also tourist spots. I went to San Juan and I visited many old churches there. They are all beautiful and classical but the masses and prayers are in Spanish mostly.

Q: We heard that most of the people in Puerto Rico are beautiful and handsome, isn't it?

A: Yes, of course. Most of the people there are beautiful and handsome. This is a reason that most of the women there are the winners, runners-up, and semi-finalist in many prestigious beauty pageants. Also, the people in Venezuela, too. Most of the well-known singers, actors, and actresses worldwide are from Puerto Rico, too.

Q: We heard that there are also cock fighting in Puerto Rico, isn't it?

A: Yes. In Puerto Rico, there are also cock fighting there like in Philippines because the culture in Puerto Rico and Philippines are similar due to have a same colonizer.

Q: Is it true that most of the well-known singers, actors, and actresses worldwide are from Puerto Rico?

A: Yes. As I mentioned early that most of the well-known singers, actors, and actresses are from Puerto Rico like Dayanara Torres (Miss Universe 1993 and actress), Ricky Martin (an actor and a member of Menudo Band in 1980s), Jennifer Lopez (actress), Mark Anthony (actor), and so on. Dayanara Torres visited in Philippines in 1994 because she was a reigning Miss Universe in 1993 and the Miss Universe 1994 was held in Manila, Philippines. She stayed in Philippines in 1993 up to 1998. She became an actress in Philippines during her stay.

Q: Do you recommend to anyone to visit in Puerto Rico?

A: Yes, I will recommend to anyone to visit in Puerto Rico because it is also a nice place to visit. The people there are very approachable especially to the tourists. It is better if you can speak Spanish because many of the people there are not fluent in English. Their medium of instruction there is Spanish and most of newspapers, bulletin boards, and television shows are in Spanish.
